We offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to look at the basic details, confirm cost and arrange an appointment. As a guide, our published hourly rates for employment matters are £150 to £500 plus VAT, and fixed fees are available. We’ll give you a quote before any work starts.
Take it seriously and get advice early. A claimant must usually notify ACAS for early conciliation before bringing most tribunal claims, and the conciliation period is an opportunity to resolve the matter. Keep all relevant documents and avoid discussing the dispute informally with the employee.
The ACAS Code of Practice on disciplinary and grievance procedures applies to most disciplinary and grievance situations. If a claim succeeds and the tribunal finds that you unreasonably failed to follow the Code, it can increase the award by up to 25%. It can also reduce an award by up to 25% where the employee unreasonably failed to follow it.
The Act makes wide-ranging changes to workplace rights, and they are being phased in over time through further regulations. Areas affected include unfair dismissal, zero-hours work, “fire and rehire” and statutory sick pay. Now is a good time to review your contracts, handbook, and dismissal and redundancy procedures.
